Congress Passes Bill to Increase Safety Regulations

Congress has passed a bill that will substantially increase the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s regulatory powers. The bill, which passed the House with a 424-1 vote and the Senate with an 89-3 vote, comes after an increase of recalls throughout the toy industry. While legislation that increases powers of the federal government has not proven popular over the past 20 years, this bill may signal a reduction in the national anti-regulatory attitude.
